Lichnov [ Village or Town/City ]

A village amongst undulating hills 4 kilometers northwest from Frenštát pod Radhoštěm, extending into the valley and along the brook called Lichnovský, or also Javornička, that becomes a tribute of the Lubina river at the north periphery of the municipality. It spreads beneath the headlands of Veřovické vrchy with Červený Kámen as the highest hill reaching 690 m above sea level, whereas at the foot of the St. Peter and Paul the altitude of 356 m was measured. Lichnov arose as a colonization village of the so called field type and historians agree that it was mentioned in written form for the first time 1293, of which commemorates also the memorial plate attached on the erratic block in front of the local authority office. Until the 15th century Lichnov belonged to the domain of Šostýn, afterwards to the bishopric domain of Hukvaldy. Apart from agriculture the inhabitants lived also from stone breaking and carting businesses, famous were also the pepper pretzels of Lichnov, kindling wood and coarse rugs. Many inhabitants used to travel to Kopřivnice or Frenštát pod Radhoštěm for work. In the second half of the 19th century some of the local inhabitants moved out to America, especially Texas.

Plní funkci základního stupně územní samosprávy a v různé míře je také vykonavatelem státní správy.
